Historical sketch, 1824-1900
A commemorative institutional history of the Leeds Institute of Science, Art, and Literature covering 1824-1900, printed by Goodall and Suddick in Leeds in 1901 for members, subscribers, and local readers of the mechanics' institute movement. The plates are dark halftone photographs of interiors: joinery and machine workshops with benches and lathes, a chemistry laboratory lit by high windows, a class of students at desks, and a narrow city street of shopfronts, useful for grainy industrial and classroom backdrops and period workshop equipment.
