A survey of bookbinding history by William Salt Brassington, published in London in 1891 for collectors and librarians, with twenty-four plates reproducing bindings held in the Bodleian Library at Oxford. The plates show blind- and gold-tooled leather covers photographed flat — strapwork centrepieces, corner fleurons, arabesque panels, dotted grounds — plus red ornamented initials usable as frames, borders and repeating pattern stock.
