The historic gallery of portraits and paintings; or, Biographical review:
A multi-volume biographical compendium of engraved portraits and paintings, published in London by Vernor, Hood, and Sharpe in 1807 for readers of art history and collected lives. The plates are outline engravings of head-and-shoulders portraits, mostly seventeenth-century painters in ruffs, cloaks and doublets, modelled with fine parallel hatching and set against ruled horizontal-line grounds inside thin double borders; useful for line-shading textures, framed vignette formats and period costume detail.
