The historic gallery of portraits and paintings; or, Biographical review:
A multi-volume biographical compendium issued in London by Vernor, Hood and Sharpe in 1807, pairing short lives of notable figures with engraved portraits for a general reading public. The plates are line-engraved bust portraits, mostly half-length within ruled rectangular borders, with hatched or ruled tonal grounds, wigs, fur-trimmed robes, lace collars and chains of office rendered in fine parallel lines, useful as cut-out heads, framed vignettes or hatching reference.
