Historic illustrations of the Bible : principally after the old masters
A volume of steel-engraved Bible scenes copied from Old Master paintings, issued by Fisher, Son & Co. in London in 1840 for Protestant family and devotional reading. The plates are tonal line engravings of crowded figure groups in robes, set among classical columns, arched interiors and open landscape, useful for draped figures, gesturing crowds and soft graduated grey backgrounds.
