Historic ornament : treatise on decorative art and architectural ornament
A two-volume survey of decorative art and architectural ornament written by James Ward and published in London by Chapman and Hall in 1897, aimed at art students, craftsmen and designers learning historic styles. The plates are wood-engraved and line drawings of metalwork, pottery, furniture and carved detail, including engraved dishes with scrolling foliage, goblets with heraldic bowls and stemmed ornament, and flat pattern panels usable as borders, rosettes and repeating motifs.
