Sculptura, or, The history and art of chalcography, and engraving in copper : with an ample enumeration of the most renowned masters and their works : to which is annexed, a new manner of engraving, or mezzotinto
A 1769 London edition of John Evelyn's Sculptura, first issued 1662, a history of copperplate engraving and chalcography printed for John Murray for collectors and connoisseurs, with an appended account of mezzotint credited to Prince Rupert. The plates are dark mezzotints, including a cropped detail of a turbaned, draped head worked in velvety greys and deep blacks, alongside plain tooled calf and board covers that read as leather and paper textures.
