The history of Aladdin, or, the wonderful lamp
A cheap New York chapbook retelling of the Aladdin tale, issued by Edward Dunigan in 1840 for children, with text after the pantomime writer Charles Farley. Square wood engravings, hand-coloured in flat pink, yellow, blue and green with stenciled overlaps, show turbaned sultans, enthroned viziers, a horseman in procession, and plumed palace interiors — useful for naive block-print figures and bright mis-registered colour.
