A history of architecture for the student, craftsman, and amateur : being a comparative view of the historical styles from the earliest period
Banister Fletcher and his son's comparative survey of historical architectural styles, published in London by Batsford in 1896 as a teaching manual for students, craftsmen and general readers. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of European facades, arcades and church fronts, printed small with heavy black shadows and broken grey tone, useful for repeating window bays, rose windows and arched colonnades, or as ready-made textured architectural silhouettes.
