A history of ornament

Hamlin, Alfred Dwight Foster, 1855-1926 · 1916 · New York, The Century Co. · 378 pictures

A survey of ornament from antiquity through the Renaissance, written by Columbia architecture professor A. D. F. Hamlin and published by The Century Co. in New York in 1916 as a textbook for architecture and design students. The 379 line drawings record carved and painted detail—acanthus capitals, scroll friezes, coffered panels, rosettes—in open outline with light hatching, usable as clip motifs, border repeats, or tracing stock.
