A history of ornament ..
A survey textbook of ornament by Columbia architecture professor A. D. F. Hamlin, published by the Century Co. in New York in 1916 for students of architecture and the decorative arts. Its 471 figures are pen drawings and tonal plates of ornament details copied from buildings and objects, many captioned with their source: acanthus scrolls, grotesque-masked cartouches, pilaster panels, capitals and cornice moldings, usable as isolated motifs or border stock.
