A volume of Haldane Macfall's multi-part survey of Western painting, published in Boston by Dana Estes in 1911 with a preface by Frank Brangwyn, aimed at general readers and students of art history. The plates are colour reproductions of Netherlandish and German panel paintings — donor portraits, Madonna groups, black-robed sitters against flat blue grounds — useful for period costume, tiled and arcaded interiors, and deep red and black colour pairings.
