A volume from Haldane Macfall's multi-part history of painting, published in Boston by Dana Estes in 1911 with a preface by Frank Brangwyn, written for general readers and students of art history. The plates are three-colour reproductions of English portraits by Reynolds, Gainsborough, Romney and their contemporaries, showing women in white muslin gowns against red drapery and parkland, useful for soft period colour, costume detail and half-length figure poses.
