History of the Stars and Bars : designed by Orren Randolph Smith, February, 1861, at Louisburg, North Carolina, adopted by Congress of Confederate States of America at Montgomery, Alabama, March 4, 1861
A commemorative pamphlet issued in 1913 by the North Carolina Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and printed in Raleigh, arguing Orren Randolph Smith's claim to have designed the first Confederate flag. Halftones show the three-bar, seven-star flag on staffs and a portrait of Smith in a hat and badges, with pen-drawn rose-and-ribbon headpieces and tailpieces between chapters.
