William Dugdale's antiquarian history of St Paul's Cathedral, reissued in London in 1716 by George James for Jonah Bowyer with Edward Maynard's continuation on the new church and the northern cathedrals, made for clergy, antiquaries and subscribers. Engraved prospects of the burnt medieval fabric, tomb and monument plates, ground plans and lettered inscriptions sit alongside foliate printers' ornaments — scrolling acanthus tailpieces, lozenge flower clusters, a caryatid headpiece with fruit swags — usable as rules, spot ornaments and architectural line stock.
