Hokusai manga
A 1912 Kyoto reprint by Unsōdō of Katsushika Hokusai's Manga, the artist's sketch compendium of figures, trades, animals and landscape motifs first issued from 1814 as a drawing manual for students and craftsmen. Pages carry loose groups of brush-drawn figures printed in black with pale grey blocks, showing workers at grindstones, looms and writing desks in quick outline poses that can be lifted singly as spot figures or pattern elements.
