Hokusai manga
A 1912 Kyoto reprint by Unsōdō of Katsushika Hokusai's manga, the sketchbook series of woodblock-printed drawings first issued from 1814 as models and reference for students, artisans and print buyers. Pages are line-only monochrome woodcuts inside ruled borders: flowing water rendered as banded contour lines, low hills with dotted foliage and thatched roofs, and a massive elephant with two figures on its back, drawn with looped wrinkles and blunt clawed feet.
