Hollybush Hall, or, Open house in an open country
A sporting comic novel written and illustrated by Georgina Bowers, published in London by Bradbury, Evans in 1871 for the hunting-and-country-house readership that bought Punch albums. Hand-coloured wood engravings show domestic interiors, drawing-room conversations and hunt-field encounters with red coats, crinolines and fan-wielding dowagers, drawn in loose outline with flat washes of scarlet, orange and green, useful for period costume silhouettes, small dogs and figure groupings.
