Home interiors
A practical guide to decorating and fitting out American houses, written by the Springfield architect Eugene Clarence Gardner and published in Boston by J. R. Osgood in 1878 for middle-class homeowners and builders. The 77 plates are outline pen drawings of interior woodwork — staircases with panelled soffits, dados, cornices and papered wall bands — giving designers repeating border patterns, fretwork grids and carved scroll strips drawn flat enough to trace.
