Homes of our forefathers in Boston. Old England and Boston, New England
Edwin Whitefield's 1889 antiquarian survey, published in Boston by Damrell & Upham, records surviving colonial houses in Boston and their English namesakes for local historians and preservationists. The 66 hand-tinted lithographs show clapboard and brick dwellings in three-quarter view with gambrel roofs, tall chimney stacks, small-paned sash windows and shopfronts, drawn in fine outline over flat washes of buff, brick red and pale sky.
