House-warming at the new Howland store, Bridgeport, November 18th to 21st, 1908.
A souvenir booklet issued by the Howland Dry Goods Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut, to mark the four-day opening of its new store in November 1908, printed for customers, buyers and staff. Most plates are small halftone bust portraits of department heads in dark sack coats and high collars, vignetted against grainy clouded studio backgrounds, giving designers a stock of period business faces, moustache and hairstyle types, and soft-edged oval framing.
