How to use Florence knitting silk
An instruction manual issued by the Nonotuck Silk Company of Florence, Massachusetts and printed in Boston in 1883, showing home knitters and crocheters how to work the firm's silk thread. The plates are close-up wood engravings of lace samples printed dark on cream, each a flat rectangle or scalloped band of looped stitchwork with open holes forming diamonds, shells and scrollwork, usable as repeat patterns, borders, and textured fills.
