A gallery-going handbook by Esther Singleton, published in New York by Dodd, Mead in 1911 for American travellers and amateurs touring European museums. The 95 plates are coarse halftone reproductions of Old Master paintings u2014 Murillo holy families, Venetian altarpieces, three-quarter portraits u2014 printed dark, with heavy blacks, blurred faces and visible screen dots useful for grainy textures, ghosted figure silhouettes and vignette frames.
