The hydrostaticks; : or, The weight, force, and pressure of fluid bodies made evident by physical, and sensible experiments, together with some miscellany observations, the last whereof is a short history of coal, and of all the common and proper accidents thereof, a subject never treated of before.
A treatise on hydrostatics and coal mining by the Scottish mathematician George Sinclair, printed at Edinburgh in 1672 for natural philosophers and mine surveyors. The woodcuts are bare geometric diagrams — lettered hatched planes, tubes and barometer columns filled with solid black, dotted construction lines — useful for line-and-hatch textures, lettered schematics, and the look of early scientific figures.
