Balde, Jakob, 1604-1668, Wagner, Johann, fl. 1645-1680, publisher · 1663 · Monachii [Munich] : Typis Joannis Wilhelm Schell, sumptibus Joannis Wagneri, civis ac bibliopolae Monacensis · 19 pictures

A Latin emblem book of Neo-Latin verse by the Jesuit poet Jakob Balde, printed in Munich in 1663 by Johann Wilhelm Schell for the bookseller Johann Wagner and addressed to educated Catholic readers. The pictures indexed here are small letterpress woodcut ornaments repeated through the volume: a haloed winged cherub head flanked by scrolled finials, with swags and a pendant foliate spray, printed in coarse black line on laid paper, useful as headpieces, dividers and symmetrical spot motifs.
