Iani Iacobi Boissardi Vesuntini Emblematum liber
An emblem book by the Besançon antiquarian Jean Jacques Boissard, engraved by Theodor de Bry and printed at Frankfurt am Main in 1593 for learned readers who read Latin and Greek mottoes alongside allegorical scenes. The fifty small copperplates set numbered figures in arcaded courtyards, colonnades and tiled interiors, with inscribed plinths and tablets carrying the mottoes, classical statues, armoured soldiers and women in late sixteenth-century dress; useful for architectural framing devices, lettering-bearing stone blocks and compact allegorical groups.
