Ian vander Veens zinne-beelden, oft Adams appel. Verciert met seer aerdige const-plaeten mesgagers syne oude ende nieuwe ongemeene bruydt-lofs ende zege-zangen...
A Dutch emblem book by the Deventer poet Jan van der Veen, printed in Amsterdam by Everhard Cloppenburgh in 1642, pairing moralising verse and wedding and victory songs with engraved emblem plates for literate burgher readers. The small horizontal etchings set peasants, dogs, jugs and flying birds against crumbling walls, towers and open country in fine hatched line, and the text pages carry woodcut initials built from grotesque masks, foliage and cherub heads.
