Icones imperatorvm romanorvm, ex priscis numismatibus ad viuum delineatae, & breui narratione historicâ
A numismatic portrait gallery of the Roman emperors, engraved after ancient coins by Hubert Goltzius and reissued in 1645 by the Plantin press in Antwerp with historical notes by Jan Caspar Gevaerts and Rubens's involvement, for antiquarians and coin collectors. The 154 plates are chiaroscuro woodcuts in ochre and black: profile busts in ruled circles, ringed by capital-letter legends, with drapery, cuirasses, laurel wreaths and radiate crowns modelled in fine hatching.
