The iconography of Manhattan Island, 1498-1909 : compiled from original sources and illustrated by photo-intaglio reproductions of important maps, plans, views, and documents in public and private collections
A six-volume documentary history of Manhattan compiled by I. N. Phelps Stokes with Victor Hugo Paltsits and F. C. Wieder, published in New York by Robert H. Dodd from 1915, reproducing maps, plans, views and manuscripts in photo-intaglio for historians, collectors and librarians. The plates carry early portolan charts, rhumb-line webs, compass roses, strapwork cartouches and inked coastlines, usable as line-heavy map textures and lettering models.
