Iconologia
Cesare Ripa's Iconologia, the standard handbook of allegorical figures, in the 1764 Perugia edition edited by Cesare Orlandi with plates drawn by Carlo Spiridione Mariotti and engraved by Carlo Grandi, made for artists, poets and decorators needing correct personifications. Etched single figures stand in open landscapes holding attributes, accompanied by woodcut headpieces of masks, foliate scrolls and paired sirens.
