Cesare Ripa's handbook of allegorical personifications, reissued in Perugia in 1764 by Piergiovanni Costantini with commentary by Cesare Orlandi, drawings by Carlo Spiridione Mariotti and plates engraved by Carlo Grandi, made for artists, poets and emblem scholars. Alongside figure plates naming attributes, the pages carry repeating typographic ornaments: a winged nude holding laurel between laureate busts on plinths, framed by acanthus scrollwork.
