Iconologia
Cesare Ripa's Iconologia, the standard handbook of personified virtues, vices and abstractions, reissued in Perugia in 1764 with commentary by Cesare Orlandi, drawings by Carlo Spiridione Mariotti and engravings by Carlo Grandi, for painters, poets and scholars needing correct allegorical attributes. Alongside the emblem figures run woodcut headpieces: winged genii holding laurel, acanthus scrolls, masks and laurelled busts on plinths, usable as rules, cartouche frames and spot ornament.
