Iconologia
Cesare Ripa's Iconologia, the standard Italian dictionary of personified allegories first issued in 1593, here in the expanded edition annotated by Cesare Orlandi and printed at Perugia by Piergiovanni Constantini in 1764 for painters, poets and preachers needing correct attributes for abstract concepts. The letterpress woodcuts include a repeated headpiece of a winged Victory holding laurel branches over two wreathed portrait busts on scrolled brackets, plus figure plates of emblematic personifications, all usable as symmetrical chapter ornaments, crests and allegorical figure stock.
