Iconologia del cavaliere Cesare Ripa, perugino
Cesare Orlandi's expanded edition of Cesare Ripa's Iconologia, printed at Perugia in 1764 for scholars, artists and emblem writers needing standard figures for abstract ideas. Small etched plates show single allegorical women standing in bare landscapes with attributes — laurel, mask, banderole mottoes, a tree — useful as figure silhouettes, drapery studies, scroll labels and vignette borders.
