Iconologia del cavaliere Cesare Ripa, perugino
Cesare Ripa's emblem handbook of personified abstractions, expanded and annotated by Cesare Orlandi and printed at Piergiovanni Costantini's press in Perugia in 1764 for artists, poets, and scholars needing standard attributes for allegory. Small etched plates show standing female and male figures with identifying attributes in sparse landscapes, paired with woodcut headpieces of winged genii, scrollwork, and portrait busts.
