Iconologia del cavaliere Cesare Ripa, perugino
Cesare Orlandi's expanded Italian edition of Cesare Ripa's emblem handbook, printed at Perugia in 1764 for artists, writers and scholars needing standard figures for the virtues, vices, seasons and passions. Small engraved plates by Carlo Grandi set single allegorical figures with their attributes in bare landscapes, alongside woodcut headpieces and cartouches useful for symbol vocabulary and vignette framing.
