Iconologie tirée de divers auteurs : ouvrage utile aux gens de lettres, aux poëtes, aux artistes, & généralement à tous les amateurs des beaux arts
Jean-Baptiste Boudard's Iconologie, printed at Parma in 1759 and etched with Benigno Bossi, is a dictionary of allegorical figures compiled from earlier authors for writers, poets and artists needing correct personifications. Each of the 211 plates gives a single standing or seated figure with its attributes—flame, fasces, dagger, dog, sunburst—drawn in open line against ruled horizontal hatching, useful as cut-out emblem silhouettes and attribute vocabulary.
