An illustrated iconology handbook compiled by the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Boudard from classical and emblematic sources, issued at Vienna by Johann Thomas von Trattner in 1766 for writers, poets, painters and sculptors needing standard personifications. The 225 small upright etchings each show one draped female or male figure seated or striding with an identifying attribute — torch, cup, wheat, arrows, altar — modelled in close parallel hatching against ruled skies and plain plinths.
