Idea de un principe politico christiano : rapresentada en cien empresas
Diego de Saavedra Fajardo's emblem book of a hundred devices instructing a Christian prince, engraved by Johann Sadeler and printed at Munich and Milan in 1642 for courtly and diplomatic readers. Each plate sets a Latin motto on a ribbon above a small scene—columns, siege engines, battlements, quills, anchors—inside an oval strapwork cartouche with scrolls, fruit swags and cherub heads, useful for frames, mottos and device silhouettes.
