Idea principis christiano-politici, centum symbolis expressa
A Latin emblem book of political counsel for rulers by the Spanish diplomat Diego de Saavedra Fajardo, printed at Brussels by Joannes Mommartius in 1649 with engravings after Erasmus Quellinus. Each of the hundred emblems is an oval cartouche of strapwork, fruit swags and ribbon mottoes framing a small landscape with a single device — a grafted vine, a column of ships, a magnet lowered from a cloud, a shell on a plumb line — usable as frames, spot devices and heraldic ornament.
