Il Burato : libro de recami
A 1909 Bergamo facsimile, issued by the Istituto italiano d'arti grafiche, of Il Burato: libro de recami, the early sixteenth-century Venetian embroidery and lace pattern book printed by Alessandro Paganini for needleworkers copying designs onto cloth. The 82 plates are solid black woodcut strips on cream, paired as vertical panels: symmetrical palmette and acanthus scrolls, knotted moresque interlace, banded ribbons and small flower heads, all repeatable as borders, rules, endpapers or stencil-like silhouette ornament.
