Emanuele Tesauro's treatise on wit, metaphor and emblematic speech, first issued in Turin and reprinted in Venice by Benedetto Milocco in 1682 for preachers, poets and writers of inscriptions. Decoration is letterpress ornament: coarse woodcut initials with figures and foliage inside a border, flower-filled vase headpieces, and dense Italian prose pages with capitalized display lines.
