Ruined abbeys and castles of Great Britain
A Victorian antiquarian survey of English and Scottish monastic and military ruins, written by William Howitt and issued in London by A.W. Bennett in 1862 for general readers with a taste for topography and photography. Mounted albumen photographs of ivy-grown abbey interiors sit beside small wood-engraved vignettes of pointed arches, broken piers and window tracery, usable as spot ornaments or architectural silhouettes.
