Illustrated book of patterns for lace making
A numbered trade catalogue of lace patterns issued in 1878 by Mme. Gurney & Co. of New York and Brooklyn, sold to women working lace at home and to shops ordering by pattern number. The plates print white lace designs against flat purple grounds "medallions, collars, yoke curves, teardrop sprigs and scalloped edgings" giving designers ready reversed-out ornament, repeating floral net fills, and border shapes that follow a neckline or arch.
