A trade catalogue of chairs and furniture issued by the New York manufacturer J.W. Mason & Co. in 1874 for retailers and wholesale buyers. The 152 wood-engraved plates show single chairs on blank grounds in three-quarter view, each drawn with dense hatching to render turned legs, caned and plank seats, and stamped or carved crest rails, giving designers a ready stock of isolated furniture silhouettes and period ornament motifs.
