Illvstratione de gli epitaffi et medaglie antiche
An Italian antiquarian survey of Roman inscriptions and coins by Gabriele Simeoni, printed at Lyon by Jean de Tournes in 1558 for humanist scholars and collectors of antiquities. The woodcuts render inscribed altars and statue bases with cornices, egg-and-dart moldings and stepped plinths, small figure friezes, and coin faces, giving designers ready capital-letter lapidary layouts framed by architectural borders.
