Le imprese illvstri : con espositioni et discorsi
Girolamo Ruscelli's Le imprese illustri, printed in Venice by Comin da Trino in 1572, is an Italian compendium of personal emblems and heraldic devices with commentary, made for courtiers, scholars and nobles. Engraved plates set mottoed devices inside strapwork and caryatid cartouches, paired with small woodcut initials of putti among foliage — usable as frames, badges, ribbon banners and decorative letters.
