A numismatic study by Jules Chautard, published in Nancy in 1871 for collectors and medieval coin scholars, cataloguing Continental European imitations of the English sterling penny struck in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Line engravings show obverse and reverse pairs: facing crowned heads ringed by Latin legends, and long cross reverses with pellet groups, useful as circular emblems, seals and lettered roundels.
