The imperial macramé lace book. With numerous illustrations and instructions. Flax threads

Barbour Brothers Company · 1877 · New York, W. Martin, Printer · 17 pictures

A trade instruction manual issued in 1877 by the Barbour Brothers Company of New York to sell its flax threads to home lacemakers, printed by W. Martin with worked samples and knotting directions. The plates are photographic-looking white-on-black studies of knotted macramé borders, fringes and diamond lattices, giving designers high-contrast repeating bands, chevron and knot textures, and dense allover patterns.
