An Italian translation by Giovanni Marquale of Andrea Alciati's emblem book, printed at Lyon by Mathias Bonhomme in 1551 with woodcuts attributed to Pierre Eskrich, for readers of moral verse and devices. Small emblem cuts sit inside strapwork frames, with headpieces and tailpieces of grotesque masks, winged beasts, scrolling foliage and fruit swags usable as rules, borders and spot ornaments.
